STEP 1: REGISTER WITH THE AZ REGION
In order to participate in tryouts, your son will need to be registered with the AZ Region. Not only are we required to make sure you have registered, but it's important in case they get injured as membership with the region covers as secondary insurance. VERY IMPORTANT: PLEASE PRINT OUT THE MEMBERSHIP CARD and bring to tryouts. You can register here here: JOIN USAV
PLEASE NOTE: This is a 2-part process: In order to participate for tryouts, you'll need to sign up for the Summer Fee ($15). This membership lasts through September 1, 2019.
After tryouts, the new club season (2019) begins September 1, 2019 - this is when players can apply for a new 2020 USAV membership ($55). Once Team Selections have concluded and players commit to Ignite, all players must renew/apply before September 10, 2019.
STEP 2: DETERMINE ATHLETE'S AGE GROUP
This is super important! Please make sure you do this PRIOR to making plans for tryouts. Please do not assume the age - the only way to determine what age group your son should try out for is to use the AZ Regions tool located here: AGE DEFINITION
STEP 3: REGISTER FOR IGNITE TRYOUTS
Registering is important as this lets us know information about your son prior to tryouts: things like specific teams you would like to tryout for, specific positions, etc. This info comes in handy when we're evaluating and determining teams.
STEP 4: FILL OUT AND BRING THE FOLLOWING FORMS TO TRYOUTS OR GET AHEAD OF THE GAME AND BRING TO OPEN HOUSES!
- Proof of USAV Jr. Membership (membership card or receipt)
- Complete the USAV Medical Release Form
- Complete the Concussion Acknowledgement Form
- Complete the SafeSport Acknowledgement Form
- Provide a photocopy of your son's birth certificate (if first year playing in the AZ Region)
- Tryout Fee
At the conclusion of tryouts, players chosen to play with the club will be asked to sign their contracts and an initial deposit (commitment fee - paid in cash, by check or credit card) will be required at that time. Please have a parent available at the conclusion of tryouts to sign the required documents and provide payment.

National Elite Coach's Training Program - Gold Medal Squared
Ignite provides GMS training to all our coaches including our assistants. This ensures that your athlete is trained by the best! We are the ONLY club in Arizona that is GMS Certified. Mike Wall, USA Men's Volleyball Assistant Coach, leads these clinics!
Since Ignite began, GMS has been the cornerstone of our program. It’s built on sound principles and their methods are proven. Because we are lifetime students of the game, we don’t teach the ways of the past. GMS’s program stays on top of current methods as well as constantly doing research to make sure that we’re coaching the best way possible for our athletes.
Here’s more from their site:
Gold Medal Squared is the collaborative effort of some of our countries most successful and experienced coaches. Dr. Carl McGown, Dr. Marv Dunphy, Dr. Doug Beal, Jim McLaughlin and the rest of our staff bring over 300 years of combined coaching experience. Our staff has been at the top of the game at every level: High School, Club, Collegiate, Professional Foreign Leagues, and International competition. Gold Medal Squared Volleyball Camps and Clinics was created with one goal in mind – improving the quality of volleyball players and volleyball coaches. We believe that coaching is a lifelong education. Through years of refinement, we have developed a unique process by which volleyball coaches are given the necessary tools to teach the skills to their players, to understand the tactics of the game, to make better use of limited time with their players, and to develop winning programs. This process is based on studied scientific principles from human kinetics, organizational behavior, statistics, and psychology.
Thousands of volleyball coaches world-wide have been through the Gold Medal Squared program – many with literally life-altering results. We have had innumerable volleyball coaches tell us how much more they enjoy coaching, how much more success and satisfaction they are achieving, and what a big change the Gold Medal Squared process has had on their lives.
